I feel like composing and arranging is such a part of my identity that I am consistently working on new projects, while contributing to existing ensembles on a pretty regular basis. Below is a selection of the projects that are ongoing.

Swing Shift Big Band

I am currently arranging for many different ensembles. I regularly write swing and Latin arrangements of well-known rock and pop tunes for The Swingshift Big Band which is a community group that explores the big band tradition while my arrangements add a unique spin on popular music by artists as diverse as Tom Waits, AC/DC, Cyndi Lauper and more.

Marty Pervan’s Midnight Rollers

I also write for my own groups. The Midnight Rollers, is a professional dectect featuring a male and female vocalist. I would describe this group as “Post-Modern Jukebox on steroids”. This group is a bucket of fun to write for as they can play pretty much anything I can throw at them. Their Facebook page is here -

Nueva Salsa Orchestra

Another of the groups that I manage and write for is Nueva Salsa Orchestra. We play mostly Son Monuto (Salsa music from Cuba and Columbia and New York), Cha-Cha, Guaguanco, and other various dance music from Latin America. I have been working with some of these guys for over 20 years and it is always a fun time. It is so enjoyable to write for this calibre of musicians - there is also a bit of a cigar and fine rum culture that’s difficult to avoid too… and why would you want to?! Here is NSO’s Facebook page -
